Abstract

The second “Numerical Methods and Theories of Partial Differential Equations” summer school, sponsored by the Tianyuan Fund of Mathematics of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and hosted by Beijing University of Technology and Beijing Institute of Scientific and Engineering Computing, successfully concluded in Beijing on August 18, 2018. The summer school started on July 30, 2018 and lasted for three weeks. More than 120 students from 43 universities across the country participated in the summer school. The courses included “Finite Element Foundations and New Methods”, “Stochastic Partial Differential Equations”, “Introduction to Inverse Problems and Applications”, and “Constrained Optimization and Optimal Control of Partial Differential Equations”. The main lecturers were Xu Jinchao, Chen Long, and Hu Jun. , Wu Shuonan, Zou Jun, Zhang Zhongqiang, Liu Hongyu, Jin Bangti and Zhang Liwei and other nine internationally renowned scholars, and young teachers as teaching assistants, explained exercises, answered questions, corrected homework, set exams and marked examination papers. In order to further broaden the students' academic horizons and understand the academic frontier, the summer school also organized a “Partial Differential Equations Numerical Methods and Theoretical Frontiers Seminar” in the last two days, and more than ten young talents gave wonderful academic reports.
